New project?
I'm looking to buy a "real" car for a project soon. I want it to be cheap, light, and have plenty of potential. Heres a couple I'm looking at. Both are around 400.

They are both 2.3 autos and the white one runs and drives. The black one is toast from the previous owner neutral dropping it and it has a salvage title. What do you think?

RE: New project?
Fox body mustangs are cheap light and with a big motor will run damn fast. If your looking to do anything other than drift or drag though i would go with something else. Big motor in the front is gonna make the damn thing handle like crap (without lots of suspension work in in the front). Also to get any traction with said big motor you will need to tub it out back, this will also take away from Autox or roadracing potential. Another thing i have heard (don't know if its true) but you can't fit wide tires in the front with a small block v8.

I have not done my research on this yet either but I have heard that kit cars that people couldn't finish are going for really cheap in this market.

P.S.

If you go small block v8 please go chevy. Ford SB do not have the riddiculous amount of parts availability, both stock and aftermarket, that SBC's have. Not to mention SBC are more widely used as Drag motors, that says somehting by itself.

944's with LS motors are wicked fast and handle like....well... a porsche.

I WANT: BKing, Bug Eye STI, a New Desktop, and a truck.
Oh well shit takes time Cool

RE: New project?
well, i think that you can put about 7 to 8 inch tires on the front of a fox like that.

and there are countless things that you can do to the 302s to make them fast, my favorite being a 347 stroker motor, but that can get pricey. You can build a nice 302, and be competing with the chevy 350s all day.

If you are gonna autox though, the fox mustangs dont have a very good
suspension for that. You will be having to do ALOT of suspension work to one of those to get it to handle nicely

The only good thing about Chevy motors is that you can find a ton of stuff for them. they are about a dime a dozen.

RE: New project?
ill let you think what you want to think, but when a lil ranchero with a lil 347 in iut blows a 383 storker away, then you might think twice.

Chevys are quanity, fords are quality.

RE: New project?
Ford engines are garbage. Plain and simple, I would never build a 302 or 351 for a Pony. Then again, I hate the 350 too. So I was thinking 327 and 2 speed powerglide, just for the sake of being different. Plus I want it to be reliable and semi effecient.

RE: New project?
Thats exactly why I want a fox body. High school kids and dumb rednecks get ahold of these cars and just ruin them. I very rarely see one done right and when you do, its always a 5.0 and the only thing that makes it stand out is its look. I want to go a step further because I've never seen a fox with a 327 and a powerglide. Plus it will piss off die hard Ford guys. Thats always fun. But I'm leaning towards an S-10 now. I've had a ton of them already and I know them well, so it seems like a better fit for me.
